Marian is particularly interested in helping individuals and groups find a path through difficult transitions or points of indecision in their working lives: clarifying goals, taking on new roles or responsibilities and realising ambitions. She is a solution finder – always pragmatic, but with a passionate belief in people’s innate ability to flourish. On a 1:1 level Marian delights in working with executives who have decided to act, but need help in understanding the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ (and occasionally the ‘why’). She is always encouraging, sometimes challenging, but constantly focused on achieving enduring change for the client. As a team facilitator, she goes beyond the application of the more familiar tools and techniques, using instead a systemic approach and Group Process Consulting methods that can ignite important change in the most senior boards. Where high-value teams have difficulty moving from ideas to action, have internal conflicts or encounter resistance to change, Marian can provide trained and experienced support.
Marian has 34 years leadership and management experience in the public sector, having reached senior rank in the Army. There she built a track record of helping staff realise their full potential by mobilising their own resources and she brings this heritage to her coaching. She has spent 6 years on the Board (3 years as Chair) of a medium-sized charity, seeing it successfully through the recession and is currently a Non-Executive Director of the Government's public transport watchdog, Passenger Focus and British Cycling. Having operated many strategic partnerships with industry, she is also attuned to private sector practices.
She applies this cross-sector business understanding to her coaching relationships and can tap into her past successes in change management, process redesign and delivering innovative solutions in order to help clients gain the new insights they seek. Marian is able to draw on a network of qualified coaches, mentors and mediators to assist in delivering her coaching practice.
